WHO WE ARE

The Village of Elks is a parent organization whose mission is to improve the education and experience of African American, Black or Multi-racial students and their families in the Centerville School District. We want to make sure that our children get the best educational experience the Centerville City Schools have to offer regardless of their racial, ethnic background, income level, gender, sexual orientation or disability status.

OUR MISSION

Our aims are to:

  1. Improve communication between families and the teachers and administrators of the Centerville, Ohio school district;
  2. To address challenges faced by these families and
  3. To share resources with parents and families.

We complete the before-mentioned activities by providing education workshops; social networking via Facebook and participation in meetings, cultural events and social events; supporting the Black Student Union at Centerville High School; providing representation at school board meetings; providing outreach to new families; creating and updating resource guides; dialoguing with school staff on the promotion of diverse staff and diversified curriculum; encouraging and supporting school staff members to participate in training involving implicit bias, systemic racism, and other issues involving African-American education; and promoting education and awareness of Black History Month within our schools and community.
